EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Delta Academy | Delta GEMS (Growing & Empowering Myself Successfully)

​

This committee encourages, develops and supports young women ages 14-18 and/or in grades 9 through 12 to achieve their maximum potential.  Delta Gems is composed of two major components: Growing Myself Successfully and Empowering Myself Successfully,  "The Growing Myself" curriculum includes: The "Aha" moment, socialization, self-awareness, leadership development through service advocacy, and disaster preparedness.  "The Empowering Myself" curriculum includes: skills for success, healthy lifestyle habits, financial preparation, financial achievement, educational preparation, and career preparation.  The program also includes a component that addresses the need to make appropriate choices.

EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence)

​

The EMBODI program focuses on enhancing African American males' self-esteem, character, and address any barriers to their success. The committee is responsible for working with young males from 13 to 17 by providing them with opportunities through various programs and projects to enrich their lives educationally, socially, culturally and civically through diverse activities.  The components of the program are:

  • Empowering Males - educational development, college and career development, personal development

  • Build Opportunities - recreation and family bonding, cultural development, financial, wealth, and entrepreneurial opportunities

  • Develop Independence - interest and talent development, problem solving and goal setting, mentorship and leadership, service learning and community work.

Arts and Letters

​

With a focus on the Arts, the program is designed to show and give support and appreciation to those who enrich our lives through their oral, written, musical and instrumental interpretation.  

​

The committee's objectives for the participants are:

​

  • To expose junior and senior high school students and the community at large to music, dance, singing and drama talent of their peers

  • To encourage students to enhance their skills in music, drama, dance, etc.

  • To learn at an early age to support the arts

  • To stimulate interest in and awareness of the Arts

  • To participate in National and Regional Arts and Letters events

May Week

​

The focus of this program is to observe, develop and/or participate in a special education program that stresses higher education for African American women.  The program emphasizes the need for higher education, career choices, admittance requirements for institutions of higher learning, tips for completing an impressive application, funding sources, and enhancement of self-esteem. Scholarship

​

Cambridge Alumnae Chapter provides financial assistance for minority female seniors who have exhibited an interest in obtaining a higher education and who have possessed academic promise throughout their high school career (i.e., GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale in academic subjects in grade 9 through the first semester of 12th grade.  The awards are presented during the Scholarship Awards Night held at the selected participant's high school - typically during the month of May.

Teen Lift

​

The primary design of this program is to give the 10th and 11th grade students of the geographical area of the chapter the experience of visiting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to get a panoramic view of the campuses, to acquire admission, financial aid, scholarship and transfer data, and to find out majors offered.
